Borderlands 3 is a loot-driven shooter in which Vault Hunters combine class skills and equipment while undertaking missions across several planets. Four players can play online, and PlayStation and Xbox editions support local split-screen for two. A local duo can also join online players.

Which platforms support crossplay?

Gearbox confirms SHiFT crossplay across PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, macOS, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The Nintendo Switch edition is not listed as part of that crossplay pool. The official English crossplay guide explains SHiFT display names and matchmaking.

Co-operation versus Co-opetition

In Co-operation, enemies and loot scale to each character and each player gets separate drops. In Co-opetition, classic loot rules apply: the host's level determines the scaling and loot is shared rather than instanced for each player.

Story progress made in a friend's campaign can sometimes be skipped later in your own campaign when those completed main missions come up. The English support FAQ explains the conditions.

Up to four online, or two locally in console split-screen.

Yes, a console split-screen duo can join online teammates up to a group of four.

PC via Steam and Epic, macOS, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Switch is excluded from the listed compatibility group.

Co-operation scales loot and enemy levels per player; Co-opetition follows host level and shared-loot rules.
