Dune: Awakening is Funcom's open-world survival game set on Arrakis. The Windows PC release launched on June 10, 2025; PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions followed on September 22, 2026.
Private self-hosted worlds on PC
Funcom introduced an experimental PC self-hosting option on May 19, 2026. Players can configure a private world, including resource rates, building limits, decay and PvP rules. The developer specifies a capacity of up to 40 concurrent players per Sietch; this is a server capacity, not a fixed co-op party size. Self-hosting requires Windows Pro with virtualization and Hyper-V, an AVX2-capable CPU and substantial RAM, depending on the configuration.
October hotfix and BattlEye
Hotfix 1.5.3.6 dated October 6, 2026 restored the option to start the Steam game without installed or enabled BattlEye for single-player and private/self-hosted servers that do not require it. This does not permit a client without BattlEye to join a server that requires the anti-cheat software. The official English hotfix notes specify this restriction.
Crossplay remains planned
Funcom announced crossplay for a date after the console launch, but did not specify when it would be enabled. PC self-hosting is not documented for the console editions. Do not assume that PC, PS5 and Xbox can already join the same world.
