Co-op verification sources
A Way Out follows Leo and Vincent, two prisoners attempting to escape together. Each player controls one of the two characters. The story is designed for exactly two players and cannot be played solo.
Online co-op or couch split-screen?
Both are supported. The screen stays split even during online sessions, allowing each player to see the other character's perspective. EA explains the design in its official co-op overview.
Friend Pass and the restriction in Germany
Normally only one player needs to own the full game: the second can install a free trial via Friend Pass. However, EA states that this trial is not available in Germany. Check your regional store before relying on a single purchase for online play. Friend Pass requires both players to use the same platform type; PC and consoles cannot connect through crossplay. EA also lists online subscription requirements for console players. Read the English EA support guide for details.
